Plaque 12: Railway Bridge No.55, Back Beck Lane

Plaque 12

Railway Bridge No.55, Back Beck Lane

Awarded a Blue Plaque in 2018

The railway between Ilkley and Skipton ran through the village until it closed in 1966.

This bridge is the only one still looking much as it did when built in 1888 by the Midland Railway Company.

The tracks crossed Main Street on a high bridge at Sugar Hill Green to the station which was more or less on the site of Southfield House, Mount Pleasant.
