Yorkshire Heritage Summit 2026
Heritage Group members Chris Cobley and Jonathan White recently attended the Yorkshire Heritage summit in Barnsley Civic Centre.
This is an exhibition of heritage organisations across the county, the venue changing each year. Over 30 were represented allowing members to network and exchange ideas. Addingham, which hosted the event last year, despite its size is one of the largest in terms of membership and activity and our presence is seen as an important contribution that others may learn from.
The morning sessions offered a heritage walk which Chris attended of listed buildings in Barnsley including the National Union of Mineworkers headquarters, still functioning despite a dramatic fall in active membership following the closure of most of Britain’s coal mines after the 1984-85 strike. The exhibition attracted a good turnout of members of the public and gave us the chance to showcase not only our activities but also our new banner!
Well worth the effort!
